Lasse Liljedahl, Game Director for Surviving the Aftermath, penned a letter to players updating them on the game's development and revealing its Steam Early Access launch date! Enemies who breach the gate will pour into your colony, wreaking havoc on everything in their wake. Take command of your specialists and drive the invaders back. Surviving the Aftermath players can bring their own visions to life using Steam Workshop.
In Surviving the Aftermath, players will build and manage a colony of survivors in the shadow of a world-ending event. Resources are scarce following the apocalypse, and survival requires mastery of complex systems to optimize production and colony management to ensure nothing is wasted. Players will construct buildings, manage colonists, adapt to natural disasters and more in an effort to restore civilization.

Surviving the Aftermath is more than a colony builder and enables players to go beyond the shelter to explore a dangerous world filled with unique biomes, hazards, bandits, and more. Recruit and send out teams of Specialists to gather resources and intelligence about the world around the colony. Players can see what their teams have discovered by utilizing a vast overworld map that adds layers of strategic gameplay not typically included in a colony builder.
Future updates to Surviving the Aftermath include diplomacy and combat options between colonies, expanded tech trees, endgame content and much more.
Iceflake Studios and Paradox Interactive revealed 4 new updates coming to Surviving the Aftermath, starting this week with the Bronze Update!
Alongside a big number of fixes, tweaks, and improvements, Bronze Update will also include Steam Workshop integration.

Early Access for the game has been available on Xbox Game Preview and the Epic Games Store since PDXCON 2019. Monthly content updates have come out since then, which Liljedahl notes were made possible by player feedback over the last seven months. He says expanding to Steam support “allows even more players to get involved during this phase of development where there’s still time for us to act on your feedback.” For PlayStation 4 users, launch details are promised to come as the release date gets closer. The official launch date for Surviving the Aftermath was pushed back to 2021 due to the impact of COVID-19.
Liljedahl speaks to some of the development changes since quarantine standards have been in place, saying “…development has been affected with everyone working from home during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, no one has taken ill thus far, and we’d very much like to keep it that way.” Despite these challenges, developers were able to add a good amount of content since the initial Early Access launch. Additions include trading, vehicles, an enhanced tech tree, society leaders, colony combat, colonist behaviors, and hostile wildlife. Liljedahl also lists highly requested additions that came to fruition, such as “underground resource extractors, malnutrition, and prioritizing adding combat sooner rather than later.”
